How does one go about packing shoes in a suitcase? My usual strategy is to wrap them in plastic bags and stick them in with the clothing. Anybody have a better idea?

Well, obviously, I turn them so they fit together neatly. If they are shoes I hardly ever wear (clean), I will put stuff in them, like underwear or jewellery. I knew someone once with a special case, just for shoes. That was pretty slick.
I just forget them in a drawstring Old Navy bag at the end of the bed. Leaves lots more room in the suitcase for any pair you are forced to buy on vacation!

Nope. I do the plastic bag thing, too. Totally useless, aren't I? Have a great vacation :-)
Unless you count throwing them in the trunk of the car...no.
I used to travel a lot for work, and the plastic bag thing worked the best for me. Sometimes I used a gallon-size ziploc bag.
